About the Danish Veterinary Consortium
The Danish Veterinary Consortium (DK-VET) offers a range of routine and specialist veterinary diagnostic services. We cover bacteriology, virology, parasitology and veterinary pathology. See the list of our veterinary services.
The Danish Veterinary Consortium (DK-VET) was established in 2017 as a consequence of being granted the contract for public sector services within the veterinary area by the Danish Ministry of Environment and Food.
The Consortium is a collaboration between Copenhagen University and Statens Serum Institut, and is founded on the One Health principle, where public human and animal health and the environment are taken into account. Copenhagen University has a long tradition in veterinary sciences and is responsible for the education of veterinarians, and Statens Serum Institut is a well-established research and laboratory institute within human health preparedness.
The contract for public sector services within the veterinary area covers the veterinary preparedness for a range of animal diseases, including the national reference laboratory activity for notifiable animal diseases. The Consortium has deep in-house knowledge of veterinary aspects. Nevertheless, researchers and technical staff from the former contract holder have been transferred to the new consortium within areas like vector borne diseases, risk modelling, enzootic and zoonotic virology as well as exotic virology that previously was handled by Lindholm, DTU.
The veterinary preparedness was gradually established during 2018 and 2019. From January 2020, the Consortium has the full responsibility.
